Biography

I moved to the Columbus, OH area two weeks ago, so this is bio is a little out of date:

James Jenkins is an active pianist, composer, and teacher in the Washington DC area.   He is a piano instructor and choral accompanist for the Visual and Performing Arts Program at Suitland High School and serves as Eurythmy pianist and musical coach at the Washington Waldorf School.  He is also the rehearsal and performance pianist for the Thomas Circle Singers.  James has accompanied soloists and ensembles in diverse settings, including the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, the Arts Club of Washington, the Smithsonian Institution, Princeton University Chapel, Riverside Church in New York City, the Strathmore Mansion, and the Washington National Cathedral.  He has also been the featured piano soloist in performances of Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No.1 and Beethoven's Choral Fantasy. During the summers of 2007-2009 he accompanied and assisted distinguished artists and conductors at Westminster Choir College, including singers Julianne Baird and Elem Eley, and conductors James Jordan, Weston Noble, Charles Bruffy, Joe Miller, Sabine Horstmann and Bruce Chamberlain.

As a musical coach and accompanist, James has worked with musicians at the Washington Conservatory, Children’s Chorus of Washington, University of Maryland, Maryland Opera Studio, Catholic University of America, American University, and the Crittenden Opera Studio.  Mr. Jenkins received his master’s degree in collaborative piano performance from the University of Maryland and bachelor’s degree in piano performance from Stetson University.

A few audio samples

I put together a few audio samples from previous concerts:  Brown Penny by Kenneth Mahy with the Thomas Circle Singers, Timbres oublies by Charles Martin Loeffler with mezzo-soprano Katherine Osborne, and the third movement from Poulenc's Sextet at the University of Maryland.

I had to add a picture to the sound file to get it uploaded on Youtube, so here is a lovely picture taken by my wife during a hike in the Berner Oberland during a trip to France and Switzerland a few years ago.
